Eli 5.6, Botanist
Eli 5.6 was making a drawing yesterday of a leaf, and he wanted to label the different parts. "How you do spell stoopulus?" he asked."What?" Gloria asked.
"STOOPulus," he said patiently.
"I don't recognize that word," she said.
"Honey, come on!" I said. "Stoopulus! Stop teasing the boy!"
"That is not a word," she said.
I looked at Eli. "It is a word," I said. "Your mom's called me stoopulus before."
"I can see that," he said. I burst out laughing. Gloria, resigned to living with two boys, walked out of the kitchen.
"Dad," Eli said. "Thanks for making me funny."
"Dude," I said, "I didn't make you funny. You are funny."
I think he was talking about "stipules," by the way. I think.
